Mom: I'm glad you have friends at school buddy, that makes me happy. I wish I had friends at school.
Guy: You don't have friends.
Mom: You're right. All of my friends are back in California -- they all live near Grandma & Grandpa.
Guy: Your friends all gone.
Mom: Yup, you're right. I miss my friends a lot.
Guy: You have me. I'm your friend mom. And you have Daddy, he your friend too.
Mom: Aww I'm glad your my friend buddy. I love you.
Guy: I your kid and your friend.
Mom: You're right. You are my friend and my kid.
And then he snuggled up to me and asked my to scratch his back and then rub his belly and we both fell asleep (in his bed).

"I just love you so much..."
The monkey just walked up to me, out of nowhere, told me "I just love you so much mom", and laid his head on my arm.
I can't... I can't even tell you what that means to me. He's been telling me he loves me for quite awhile now, but always in response to me saying it first. Him thinking it on his own & finding the words to tell me? That's new and wonderful (andmaybe has me a bit teary eyed).

Music to My Ears
Sitting on the sofa last night (and me right there behind him on the computer), the monkey turned around, looked me straight in the eyes and said "I love you mom".
Granted, it was with Michael's prompting and it sounded more like "I waa ew ma", but it was possibly the most amazing thing to ever come out of anyone's mouth.
My reaction is probably counter-productive because every time he says something new, I get all teary eyed and emotional. I'm probably freaking the poor kid out.
I think the best part (other than the entire thing) was that he turned to look me right in the eyes when he said it. Eye contact is a big struggle for us, so the fact that he did it with so little prompting is amazing!

I imagine it's a little hard for most people to understand how much this meant to me. My son turned three in November and he just started regularly referring to me as "mom" in the last few months. Michael taught him to sign "love" a few months ago & if we sign it first he'll sign it back to us. He does not easily or organically string words together. He does not look directly into your eyes unless he really wants something. Every single new word is a BIG deal around here.
I guess that's something I can thank autism and his speech delay for: no language (spoken or signed) is taken for granted in this house.

Wake Up Service
The Monkey ended up in our bed last night, which is no surprise since he ends up there 5-6 nights a week. Well, come this morning, he woke up earlier than usually and went about trying to wake mom and dad up by going back and forth between Michael and I, giving us big open-mouth kisses and snuggles.
Much better than my usual wake up call. Next time (if it's my day off) lets aim for 10:45am instead of 7:45am, ok?

California - Kitty Hugs

March 6, 2012
Gaius loves to give the cats hugs... when they let him get close enough. I won't go so far as to say that George was a willing participant in this embrace, but ehh.

I Made This

January 28, 2012
I know that everyone says that their kid is the cutest, smartest, most amazing child ever -- and I'm no exception.
He is the most exhausting, wonderful, hilarious, needy, silly, frustrating, smart, curious, adorable creature to set foot on this earth (in my humble opinion).

Nap Time with Mom

August 21, 2011
Some of my favorite moments with Guy are when we get to take naps together.
Although I love the naps, this day wasn't the best because the monkey was a miserable (sick) and just so sad. Many snuggles were in order, because obviously Mom makes everything better.

I'm a Sucker

I can safely say that I am (still) not a "kid person", but this Guy has me wrapped around his pudgy little fingers

My Bleeding Heart
I've always been a bit of a bleeding heart when it comes to animals (especially cats, for obvious reasons), however I was never too distressed about actual humans -- until I went and got myself pregnant.
All those stupid hormones turned me into a blubbering mess every time I read about a sick child. It's gotten exponentially worse since Gaius was actually born. I wasn't one of those parents who fell instantly in love with their baby -- it took awhile for me to feel more than just attached to him -- now that I'm head over heels. The more I fall in love with him, the harder my heart breaks when I hear about a family struggling to make it through the unimaginable.

I look at his little face and it's physically painful for me to think about anything bad happening to him... the idea of him not being a part of my life causes this dull ache in my belly that I can't quite shake. I know everyone says that they can't imagine their life without so-and-so, but that's not the case. I can imagine my life without Guy, I just don't want to.

I'm not a religious person and I'm not big on prayer, but I try my best to send out positive thoughts to the families dealing with the kind of struggles that I hope to never have to deal with. Ever.
Please head on over to Brandi & Chris' blog about their sweet baby Scarlett and send out some positive vibes (or prayers, if that's your thing). Every little bit helps, right?
